Results: In total, 292 subjects were randomized; mean age=44 yrs. 21% had delayed gastric emptying. Neither antidepressant altered gastric emptying, even in those with baseline delayed gastric emptying. GA increased with ADTx (P=0.02). Neither antidepressant affected the maximal-tolerated volume (MTV) of the nutrient drink test although aggregate symptom scores improved compared to placebo (P=0.04). Patients with the combined EPS-PDS subtype (48%) had a lower MTV on the nutrient drink test compared to the EPS group at baseline (P=0.02). Postprandial bloating improved with both AMI (P=0.03) and ESC (P=0.02). Conclusions: Amitriptyline (50 mg) improves FD symptoms but does not delay gastric emptying, even in patients with baseline delayed gastric emptying. GA improved with low-dose ADTx; the precise mechanism of action is unknown warranting further study.]]> Thu 06 Feb 2020 14:11:07 AEDT ]]> Evidence for local and systemic immune activation in functional dyspepsia and the irritable bowel syndrome: a systematic review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36099 Thu 06 Feb 2020 11:37:06 AEDT ]]> Patent enforcement in Indonesia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32934 Mon 23 Sep 2019 11:57:14 AEST ]]> Evaluation of Cell-Specific Epigenetic Age Acceleration in People With Multiple Sclerosis https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53246 Mon 20 Nov 2023 10:14:36 AEDT ]]> Access to support for Australian cancer caregivers: in-depth qualitative interviews exploring barriers and preferences for support https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:40158 Fri 29 Jul 2022 11:52:17 AEST ]]> Emerging evidence that irritable bowel syndrome & functional dyspepsia are microbial diseases (editorial) https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35708 Indian Journal of Medical Research, 149, April 2019, pp 437-440.]]> Fri 25 Oct 2019 15:19:19 AEDT ]]> Serum vitamin D content is associated with semen parameters and serum testosterone levels in men https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39668 n = 124) and a group with seminal abnormalities (SAG, n = 136). Evaluation included complete physical examination, past medical history, habits and lifestyle factors, two complete seminal analysis with sperm functional tests, serum levels of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D₃(25(OH)VD₃), total and free testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), total cholesterol, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, and karyotype. The mean concentration of 25(OH)VD₃ was significantly lower in the SAG (P < 0.001) and positively correlated with all baseline seminal parameters and total testosterone levels. In addition, serum vitamin D₃ concentration was found to be positively correlated with sperm concentration (β = 2.103; P < 0.001), total number of spermatozoa with progressive motility (β = 2.069; P = 0.003), total number of motile spermatozoa (β = 2.571; P = 0.015), and strict morphology (β = 0.056; P = 0.006), regardless of other variables. This is the first comparative study to address the issue of serum vitamin D₃ content between normozoospermic patients and those with sperm abnormalities. It clearly demonstrates a direct and positive relationship between serum vitamin D level and overall semen quality, male reproductive potential, and testosterone levels.]]> Fri 17 Jun 2022 15:25:05 AEST ]]> Hip fracture care and national systems: Australia and Asia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:49951 Fri 16 Jun 2023 13:35:49 AEST ]]> Cytotoxic activity of extracts and fractions from Paramignya trimera root and Phyllanthus amarus against pancreatic cancer cell lines https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47861 Fri 03 Feb 2023 13:26:00 AEDT ]]>
